OK, welcome everybody. This is episode three of the Denim Heads podcast. I'm dariush
00:18
And I'm Pasha with guest host, permanent guest host. Roomie in the background. I apologize. You may hear him snoring or barking in the background,
00:29
how
00:29
so
00:29
is Ruby
00:29
we'll see.
00:29
doing?
00:31
Roomie is on Cloud 9 right now we put the cookies out. He's waiting for Santa to come down the chimney and get a special Christmas belly rub.
00:41
Oh that's good. Lucky
00:43
Yeah.
00:43
guy OK good.
00:44
How's things in Switzerland?
00:47
Things are OK Concidering you know all things but we might get some snow. Actually in the next two or three days. So a little something to cheer up the mood.
00:59
Absolutely, that's good. We have all the snow that we got last week is melted, but I'm happy to hear that you guys might have a white Christmas. That's
01:09
Yes,
01:09
good.
01:10
it might happen. I'll believe it when I see it, but looks like, you know we're on the right path.
01:16
That's good, though. You sound a little different. Is there any
01:19
Do
01:19
change?
01:20
I Oh yes,
01:20
Yes.
01:21
I have a new microphone and I have spent the whole afternoon remodeling this room that used to be a dressing room but is now starting to look like a studio recording studio and I even got the new mic, but I resisted buying some. Some type of podcast mixing table. It's gotta it's called a Rd Castor pro. And it's something that you know I don't need right now, but I saw this thing and it looks like a very nice mixing table and you can plug in mikes. And there are buttons that you can preload with different sounds and stuff and it looks amazing when it's on your table next to your mic in your computer so. I'm, you know, I resisted until now, but I've seen a couple of podcasters delay, like like SDG, my friend Sam from soon seen through Glass and other guys like that. They use this thing and it looks really nice but OK for now. I resisted but I'm happy with the new Mike. For now.
02:31
That's good, I think. You're also we're on some new platforms, is that correct?
02:35
Exactly, we are now listed on Spotify on Apple Podcasts. And Stitcher and
02:43
OK.
02:43
some it will be some other platforms will be added to this list, hopefully very soon.
02:49
Oh, very good,
02:50
Yeah,
02:50
very good.
02:51
we're making moves.
02:52
We are, we are so I thought you know it's the end of the year. Christmas is right around the corner. It's actually tomorrow as
03:01
Yep.
03:02
we're recording this, we thought we'd give some ideas on what are some. Things that one could get. Some gift ideas under certain budgets
03:10
Yes.
03:11
as the year comes to a close, we're also thinking about things we wish we knew
03:18
Exactly,
03:18
03:19
yes.
03:20
as we started our denim head journey and such and then some cuts and such that we came across some some releases over the past year
03:28
Yes.
03:28
that we really liked and wanted to highlight.
03:31
Sure, so I mean you talked about Christmas and gifts and such. So for example, let's say somebody has a a budget of $100. What would you recommend?
03:46
Under 100, there's a lot of good options. Alot of fun options under or around $50. get like a studio darrison keychain
03:57
I've
03:57
that's out
03:57
seen
03:58
there.
03:58
those
03:58
Those
03:58
really
03:59
are
03:59
nice.
03:59
really cool. Around 3540, little higher up. You can always get a pair of basic Levis. Or a brand that I really like is on. It's called unbranded. Actually the brand
04:10
OK.
04:10
I like is unbranded. It's a solid pair. You know it's no frills, not much embroidery, if any. No branding on the Patch or anything, but it's a company I believe out of Los Angeles.
04:22
Nice OK.
04:23
Number of cuts and different variations. Just a solid pair of denim.
04:30
OK, cool, and let's say I have a $200 budget. Do you have something for me?
04:37
I think with 200 have alot more wiggle room. There's a lot of brands out there such as naked and famous that makes good quality products is actually another brand out of California. Cato Cato.
04:51
OK.
04:51
They have their own website, but you could find him in different stockists online as well. Really interesting cuts. Now they have two variations. They have basically stretch denim and then they have non stretch denim.
05:04
OK.
05:05
They have like I believe in the stretch size they have like a needle. Slim or thin,
05:11
OK.
05:11
they have like a skinnier one
05:13
Yep.
05:13
scissor cut. There's pen and then their non stretch versions are pretty good too. They're interesting,
05:21
OK.
05:22
nice colors, herring bone and such, but yeah.
05:25
But you can really get a naked and famous pair them for less than $200.
05:33
Oh
05:33
I
05:33
yeah, absolutely.
05:33
was just a little surprised. I thought
05:36
I.
05:36
I thought it was more expensive than that.
05:38
No, naked and famous I would say a good portion of them that I've come across.
05:44
I would say probably was around 100 and 7000
05:48
OK.
05:48
80. You know, there's one of my favorite cuts that was released this year. They had a bunch of. Duck canvas Denham. Those
05:59
Yeah.
05:59
are a little summary 10 ounces, but they had multiple variations that like a black and steel, which is kind of grey.
06:06
Yeah.
06:07
They had an army green and then there's like another one that's like a mustard color. But yeah, there's
06:13
OK,
06:13
there's you can get naked and famous.
06:15
OK cool, now let's say I'm a baller. I have $300 to splurge on denim like. Where do I go?
06:24
I think you would probably go when you're going that high. You want something that's very solid, has a history. I think you can't go wrong with a pair of us only denim secret Denham 20
06:37
Oh yes.
06:38
ounces. It's just one of those. Fabrics that put them really on the map and people love.
06:46
Yes.
06:47
I don't think you can go wrong with a pair of secret denims.
06:51
And it's called secret denim like it's
06:53
Yeah.
06:53
it's the name is cool already.
06:56
Indeed it is, but the the way it fades us and such and the way it looks. That way it feels you can't beat. It's
07:05
You have
07:06
something
07:06
a pair,
07:06
different
07:06
right?
07:07
I do I have. I have a pair in blue and black. Actually I think I have a Type 3 denim jacket that's
07:15
Yes.
07:16
made in secret Denham.
07:17
Yes, I
07:17
Really
07:17
have that
07:18
cool,
07:18
too.
07:19
yeah? It's good stuff.
07:22
Are they? Are they fading already? Your jeans? The blue ones?
07:26
No, I haven't gotten the guts frankly to wash them yet.
07:31
OK.
07:33
I believe I've washed 45 pairs of denim, but because I really like my secret denims I don't want to mess it up. I'll experiment with other denims
07:44
Yes.
07:44
and wash them and see how that goes but it's. I'll tackle it in 2021. That's
07:51
OK.
07:51
a promise.
07:52
Yeah, I mean there are many we're not going to get into this right now, but there are many ways to wash your denim and a lot of very good websites such as I don't know denim hunters than me or people like this, even on YouTube will show different ways of washing your jeans that are totally safe so.
08:12
They're all safe and
08:13
Yeah.
08:13
you can also go to like the manufacturers
08:15
Exactly,
08:16
who
08:16
they'll
08:16
made
08:16
let you know,
08:17
it.
08:17
yeah.
08:17
They'll let you know what they recommend they.
08:19
Exactly.
08:20
And I'm sure they'll applaud you for contacting them and
08:24
Yes.
08:24
caring that much about how to care for their dental.
08:27
Yeah, definitely. Definitely. OK, that's a good list.
08:33
Yeah.
08:35
In that last segment of price you have obviously a lot of other brands, but only is part of really it's it's a classic and I think that's an item you need to have when you start in the in the denim hobby.
08:46
When you get that high up, absolutely,
08:48
Yes,
08:48
I think
08:48
if
08:49
that's
08:49
you can get
08:49
just.
08:49
that high up of course.
08:51
When you do a, hopefully if you're listening, you probably are. Coming up at least and
08:59
Yep.
08:59
then sure, it's you know there's others. Momotaros there's PJS in
09:04
Yes.
09:05
everything, but I think in terms of the actual fabric as opposed to be cut, I
09:12
Yes.
09:12
think the secret denim is where you have to go.
09:15
Yes, that's a perfect. That's a perfect example of, you know. Have the brand and you have the product 'cause that fabric is really something special.
09:26
Yeah.
09:26
Yeah, definitely.
09:28
It's interesting, I think if I thought about it, what are some things I wish I? I knew a year ago that I know now and what would have helped. I probably. As I've said, you know, pay attention to the measuring guides and such,
09:42
Yes,
09:42
but also
09:43
size
09:43
the.
09:44
charts.
09:45
Size charts and pay attention to the the description of the denim. You know if it's sanforized versus unsanforized
09:55
Exactly.
09:56
if it's preshrunk versus shrink to fit, that's going to change. You know, once
10:00
Yes.
10:00
you wash it long call. I mean, you can only wear it so much without washing it, you're going to need to pay attention to
10:07
Yes,
10:07
that.
10:08
some of those brands. Some of those fabrics when washing you will lose almost up to one or one and a half size. So it's. I mean lose it will shrink down to one or one and a half size so. You can go from, you know, wearing the jeans and their little tight to not being able to wear them anymore. Like it's it's. It
10:34
Yeah,
10:34
can ruin
10:34
I think
10:34
the
10:34
for
10:34
whole
10:35
a lot
10:35
thing.
10:35
of us you're right. We were used to. I think we're pretty much all used to sanforized denim growing up starting out
10:43
Oh
10:43
just
10:43
yeah.
10:43
because of the fact that it's pre treated. Everything is done and you
10:46
Exactly.
10:47
think that you are a certain size and such. But then if you don't pay attention and you pick up, let's say a size that you think you are but it's an answer on sanforized. Will you won't fit into it afterwards
11:01
Yes.
11:01
after you wash it. So
11:02
Yes.
11:02
you gotta pay attention to that. You know you gotta pay attention to the inseam size. I do regret that I didn't. I hand my pants, some
11:11
Yeah.
11:11
of them and impart because of the fact that they were, let's say, 34 inches, and I'm probably my natural and seems maybe around 29 30, so I didn't like the idea of four 5 inches where it has to be rolled up about four five times. It looked a little bit too thick.
11:28
Looks like a donut at the end.
11:30
Exactly, yeah,
11:31
Yes.
11:31
that's a good way of saying it's like it's like your legs are inside and your feet is inside of a lifesaver. You
11:37
Yeah.
11:37
went overboard on stuff and that's real. I do wish I paid attention to that and then the rise and all those other
11:45
The
11:45
things
11:45
rise
11:46
'cause.
11:46
it makes a big difference.
11:48
Truly. Even within the same, you know if you wear Nikes. Let's say you're if you're a 9, nine and a half in Air Jordans, you're probably going to be in nine nine and a half in the same like Air Force ones, or air maxes or whatever.
12:06
Yep.
12:06
But that's not the case, and only Denham or PBJ. It's truly when you get that high up. It's very bespoke, almost
12:12
Yes.
12:13
on a slightly grander scale, larger scale because it's still all made by hand and there is human error. So pay attention to that
12:22
Yes.
12:22
more. Most of these websites out there will tell you exactly. What's the size and what they use? What's their guidance
12:31
Yes.
12:31
suchan? Yeah.
12:33
I think we started about a year ago. It was almost pandemic, almost beginning of the pandemic and the fact that, for example, myself I was unable to go in a shop and talk with some people there that would have explained this to me. If you're lucky enough to show up in a shop that. Have stuff that really are kind enough to explain this whole thing to you. It's very hard to kind of learn it by yourself 'cause you can read everything you want online, but not until you get those jeans and that you've made a mistake with choosing the size. You won't understand how uncomfortable it is if it's too tight and it's raw denim, or how weird it is to wear something that's a relaxed tapered when you're used to skinny jeans. I think it's really as you said it before. It's it's a learning curve.
13:32
Absolutely.
13:33
And unfortunately, those jeans they're pretty expensive most of the time. So the more you can educate yourself online YouTube and everything, the better. It is an I can only recommend. The Sons of Salvage podcast. They have a whole episode where they're talking about how to choose your first pair of raw denim. And it's a
13:58
There
13:58
long. It's
13:58
I
13:59
like,
13:59
never.
13:59
yeah, yeah, you should listen to it an even after listening to this, you're like wow, it's a complicated process. It's worth it, but it's complicated.
14:09
I yeah, I think all of that. I wish and honestly I think you know I said this off air. You know I'm an only child and I sort of make impulsive decisions and buys
14:22
Yeah.
14:22
all the time. I think you really don't need more than five or six pairs of denim.
14:27
Yep.
14:27
I bought way too much this year and the problem is I'm not even going to be able to enjoy them properly because they're not going to get the. They're not going to be worn as much as they should. And thus you won't have as much fade. It's going to take a longer time, alot longer for you to really see the change in
14:48
Yep.
14:48
a pair of denim.
14:49
You have to commit to one or two pairs for a couple months and then you know.
14:54
Yeah,
14:55
Switch,
14:55
absolutely.
14:55
but.
14:57
It's also difficult. I mean a lot at least stateside. A lot of people are working from home too, so it's like
15:01
I'll
15:01
how
15:01
definitely.
15:02
do you? I how do you reconcile the fact of spending three $400, however much three $100 when
15:11
Yep.
15:11
you're really going from let's say, your bedroom to your. Other bedroom to record
15:16
True, true.
15:17
or work or something
15:18
Yeah.
15:19
but. You
15:20
You
15:20
know?
15:20
can sleep in your jeans, but I mean that's a whole different story. But some people do it. Some people go on hikes and stuff, but not everybody has the, you know the geographical means to go and you know in the forests or whatever. So it's.
15:38
I think you were the one that told me you showered with your jeans on, but that's how you wash them.
15:42
I
15:42
You
15:42
did
15:42
wanted
15:43
that
15:43
them.
15:43
once, yes,
15:44
Just once,
15:44
yes.
15:45
Oh well.
15:46
With the three by ones.
15:48
Is that right?
15:48
Yes.
15:49
That's cool.
15:50
It was a weird experience, but you know it was. It was something. It was interesting.
15:55
Well, that's good. That's cool, did
15:58
Yeah.
15:58
you? Did you come across any any denim yourself or any lessons? Any denim this year that you sort of liked caught your attention?
16:06
Yes, so any denims and also it is a lesson too. So I came across some momotaros. So originally what I wanted was some Monteros so that's their tight tapered. Basically I wanted something with the stripes so that's SP so any S P0306 I would have been happy. I went to a very nice shop in. I'm based in Switzerland so I went to winter tour. There's a really nice job, sorry. It's called jeans life. They had a few models there. And I came across those. They didn't have my size and unfortunately you know no size available for me until they showed me some
16:59
So the 0605 was not only an SP but it was. It had the stripes, but the sashiko stripes. So dark blue stripes and and the indigo dyed leather Patch so that was something you know. Something
17:16
Yeah,
17:16
really special.
17:17
I came across a couple pairs of denim with that indigo Patch
17:21
Yes.
17:22
that really sort of lit a fire under me. I mean, I saw same moment R030 ones and there's a as well. It was just like a very pretty indigo dyed of course
17:33
Yeah.
17:34
Patch with but with the same pink inseam.
17:39
Inseam
17:39
The pink
17:40
Yep.
17:40
salvage.
17:41
Exactly.
17:43
You know, yeah, motor and no stripes on this one. No no sashiko
17:46
OK.
17:46
stripes, but there was that there was actually the. My favorite. Pair of black denim that's actually not black was from only Denham the Azumi black secret denim that they had. It starts off black, but then
18:00
Yep.
18:00
it ends up blue. It's so well died in everything that
18:05
It's
18:05
it
18:05
a double
18:05
looks as
18:06
indigo
18:06
close to book.
18:06
dye or something like this.
18:08
It's something like that. I think it's just across. Assuming I think is half, it's a. It's like sort of mashed up word of indigo and black, and so that's what it is.
18:20
OK.
18:21
It just starts off. It's so they diet so deeply that it looks as close to black as possible
18:27
Yep.
18:27
and then overtime it with fade and such it goes to a nicer blue. But yeah, I saw a number of of nice
18:37
Yeah,
18:37
indigo Patch.
18:38
so I mean just to finish on that story.
18:42
Oh my bad sorry.
18:43
No, no, no problem. We get carried away all the time.
18:47
Yes, I'm very passionate about this indigo dipatch.
18:50
Yes, yes, God knows we are. So basically I started with, you know, trying on some 0306 nothing was fitting 'cause they didn't have my size. But then I saw the 0605 Sashiko. And I totally jumped from one card to another. I went from tight tapered to super relaxed and high rise. But because it was the sashiko with the dyed leather Patch, the indigo dyed leather Patch, I put those on. They had my size an the cut was really. It was way bigger. The leg opening was way bigger too, and you know, but somehow I thought to myself. OK, this is what I want. You know it's a mind trick. I got tricked totally so I got those jeans. It was the jeans that I wanted, but not the cut. So I got those jeans, came back home, wore them for maybe 2 hours, looked at myself. And I was like I just can't do it. It was just, you know,
19:52
I encourage
19:53
cut.
19:53
you to buy them, though I encourage you to keep him and I
19:56
Yeah,
19:56
tried to get you to.
19:57
you tried the very nice people at the store tried to honestly and I salute them, but I had to be honest, it was like it's too. It was too big of a jump. You know. I know that I won't be.
20:13
Keep getting those super tight cut with those Japanese denim brands. I know they don't do this a lot. That's not something that's recognized in the denim world, so I'll adapt. But going from tight tapered to super relaxed, it was just it was just too much. So that's the lesson that I wish I had learned before. Is that don't get carried away because you're just trying on something that you really like, but that's not your cut, so I spent 2 1/2 hours trying on slim slimmer jeans and then all of a sudden there's this sashiko Momotaro that pops up and I bought it in five minutes and that was a mistake. So. Yeah, it was a bit of a.
21:03
There's always going to be another pair out there.
21:05
Oh,
21:05
That's
21:05
definitely.
21:06
the other good thing
21:06
Yeah,
21:06
I mean.
21:07
yeah, definitely.
21:08
It is marketing on their end so they will sort of tell you it's a limited release in this and that there's always going to be something that catches your attention. Some combination of things
21:18
Yes.
21:18
you know I didn't even know I wanted indigo dyed Patch until I saw it.
21:22
Exactly,
21:23
So
21:23
of course.
21:23
there's always going to be something else or sashiko stripes and
21:27
Yes,
21:27
all that. There's always
21:28
we
21:28
going to be, so
21:29
knew,
21:29
you'll
21:29
so
21:29
be.
21:30
I really I fell for it basically. And you know also Momotaro is is name that people who come into the denim world will start hearing a lot and start see everywhere and at some point I was like OK I want I want those stripes on my ***. At some point. You know that's
21:47
Yeah.
21:47
something that's. I said it in the last episode too. I gotta stop saying that I guess but.
21:54
Lesson learned, I will find the right pair for me at the right time.
22:00
Did you come across anything else?
22:03
Online, yes, I wasn't able to try some, but there's this. There's a really nice pair of rock territory. Yes. It's called I have the name here. I don't wanna mess it up. It's a 14 ounce nappy indigo so the texture. The fabric looks really nice. It's super nappy. It kind of looks like a like your snow denim but I don't think it's fair to compare those two 'cause it's really not that comperable but. It's looks really nappy and slubby and it's it's a really nice texture and rock territory is a brand that we like I think. And.
22:44
Did you ever think and did you even know that term nappy and sloppiness
22:48
No.
22:49
and what a word?
22:50
No, never
22:51
It's
22:51
I never,
22:51
always
22:51
even
22:52
nice to
22:52
yeah.
22:53
expand our vocabularies.
22:54
Of course. So that's what I came across. They have really good pictures on their website. Also rock territory. They make really nice picture and pictures and. It's available in a skinny what they call skinny, which for me would be more of a slim cuts, but still it looks. It's look it looks really, really good, so that's what I came across. What about you?
23:19
I I also came across a pair of rogues but rogue territories, but there's like a stealth one which is like with the black. Warp and Gray left, and that's a nice solid pair you know with the lasso stitching and such
23:33
Yep.
23:33
came across a pair of samurai jeans. There are these 7/10 which were. Really, you know quite nice, you
23:44
Yep.
23:44
know there they were called the book of the wind, which is based on I guess. A Japanese book from the 1600s called Book of the Five Rings, which is on Japanese swordsmanship and such. But these were like a pair of blue indigo with green left and died and such, and just a pretty pair of the presentation of it is really nice. Comes in a really pretty box
24:09
OK.
24:09
actually shout out to somebody out there on YouTube denim for you. They did like an unboxing of it. He does really good stuff too.
24:19
Well denim denim unboxing that's that's nice. That's something special too. That's nice.
24:25
Yeah, well that's you know we talked about this. Maybe all fair about the naked and famous. There's like
24:31
Yes,
24:31
an $800 pair of
24:32
the most
24:32
like.
24:32
expensive jeans in the world.
24:35
Is
24:35
Right?
24:35
that right?
24:36
I think so.
24:37
I don't I I I
24:39
No.
24:39
sincerely, I don't think maybe the most expensive pair of naked and famous.
24:43
OK. Or
24:44
There's.
24:45
maybe you're right, OK?
24:46
Because I've seen some some. Pure blue Japan's that are up there in 4 figure range.
24:52
Oh really, really, 4 figure range. OK then
24:55
Yeah,
24:55
OK, the
24:55
I
24:55
most
24:55
mean.
24:56
expensive negative famous.
24:57
Yeah.
24:58
And the nicest box I've seen so far for jeans.
25:02
Yeah, like a wooden one or something, yeah, there's there's three by ones and you can get a pair of denim for solid 4
25:10
Oh
25:10
but
25:10
yeah,
25:10
those are customizable,
25:11
totally customs,
25:11
of course.
25:12
right? But then again, custom, you know that's OK. That could be a whole other episode, but those super expensive jeans from naked and famous so. Are you buying this to wear them, or are you speculating on the value of those? Like you would speculate on the value of super vintage Levi's denim or stuff like this.
25:38
So you're asking a fantastic question that is probably going to be. A future episode,
25:45
Yeah.
25:46
I'm sure at some point in time because I really do believe that denomme is much like sneakers. sneakers. years ago, I really feel like denim is going to get to a point where it is an investment.
25:59
Yes.
25:59
It is going. You're going to collect it, you're speculating,
26:02
Yes.
26:02
and you know. Nobody, nobody really thought I have a good close friend who actually purchased a basketball. Michael Jordan 1985 Star 85 rookie card. It's a basketball card. He bought it for. Don't know how much like 1020 bucks and I was part of a team pack or something
26:22
OK.
26:23
like that. Thing is worth. Thousands of dollars.
26:26
Yeah.
26:28
Nobody would think baseball cards basketball cards are going to be worth that much, but I
26:32
Yeah.
26:33
do think that there is because it's something that's made by hand. It's the same as watch is, you know, to sort of circle back to something in the same industry. Watch is vintage watches. You know this better than anybody. How much was like a Newman Paul Newman Daytona? Probably like two. $300 when it came out.
26:51
Much, much less that. Yet then what they're selling. For now, I can
26:55
Yeah,
26:55
tell you
26:55
that's
26:55
this.
26:55
a 6677
26:57
Yes. Yes,
26:58
figure. even
26:58
yes.
26:59
watch, but that's another story.
27:01
Well,
27:01
That's
27:01
I'm
27:01
another
27:02
hoping
27:02
episode.
27:02
that the denim industry doesn't suffer from the same. Disease that's happening now in the watch industry with those watch is that are selling for ridiculous prices on auctions. That's a bit of a personal. Opinion of mine. 'cause
27:23
It's a
27:23
this
27:23
rant.
27:24
is yes. I mean it's it's. It's kind of distroying. Also the the industry. It's good now everybody is making huge numbers. OK very well. But there are guys out there that are really interested in this in these watches and that respect the art of watchmaking and everything and now all of this is totally unattainable for them out of reach. Because there are a few 100 millionaires a few billionaires who are just buying because they saw it on Instagram in the sides of the new hard thing to have so. I know people are probably already speculating on jeans, I'm just hoping it doesn't go. As far as it's going now with watches and different stuff like that. OK, I'm closing this this little rent, but you get what I'm saying I guess.
28:15
I listen, it's something that's very near and dear to your heart and to
28:21
Yeah.
28:21
me it's something it's an interesting thing. I mean, at the very least, I have a different perspective because I think we're at the very early stages of it,
28:30
Oh
28:30
and
28:30
yes.
28:31
if it, if it were to happen, and that's OK because we were early investors
28:36
Yes.
28:36
in this were the people that bought Amazon when it was $10. Because we saw that it could be something.
28:45
Yes.
28:46
Do you do it? Especially because you enjoy?
28:51
Enjoy denim as do I. I mean
28:53
Yeah.
28:53
I. I appreciate the the workmanship that the amount of effort that comes into it. I mean, I'm I'm sitting there and watching YouTube videos on Zimbabwe Cotton and
29:04
Exactly.
29:04
how it makes it to Japan and. There's no, I get it. There's there's certainly an appreciation for
29:11
Yes.
29:11
it.
29:15
I mean another like solid pair of denim that I came across just to sort of put a bow on it. I came across a pair of just only denim kwame's, just not very. Solid workhorse
29:30
Yes.
29:31
type pair of denim that you could wear any day of the week, day or night. And. It's pretty, it's. It's like
29:39
What's
29:40
it's
29:40
the weight
29:40
unique.
29:40
of those?
29:42
Well, you're asking me a great question. I do not remember.
29:47
I mean, are they like? Part of those super super Heavy 18 and more or.
29:53
I think it's an 18.
29:54
18th.
29:54
I want to say it's 18.
29:56
OK.
29:56
20 is reserved for the secret denhams. From what I recall.
30:01
OK.
30:04
Heaviest I've ever seen, I think is like 21 or but. Wreck it just end up but I think these are probably. Like 18.
30:14
OK, so it's wearable. Something that's you know it's.
30:18
It's definitely under 20
30:20
OK,
30:20
that I'm pretty
30:20
OK
30:21
sure
30:21
OK,
30:21
of,
30:21
that's interesting.
30:22
but yeah, they're striped and you know, they have like the warp. The vertical is like black and blue, and it's such variation that each piece is truly unique in the way it was died and everything so.
30:34
OK.
30:34
It's a pretty pair through nice pair. to. We'll see what 2021 brings,
30:39
Yes.
30:39
what new releases that are out there.
30:44
And we'll see what we get excited about. It
30:46
Do you
30:46
could
30:47
think
30:47
be anything.
30:47
that it's going to be something I don't notice this year is that I would get frustrated sometimes seeing some new stuff coming out and. OK, maybe it's not the right time for you to spend 200 three $100 and then you feel like, OK, it's gone. It's sold out and then you have you see something else coming the month, one month after you know, do you feel like these brands will continue to release those capsule collections? You know small run, it's done, sold out? OK, something else is coming right after that.
31:22
I think if you depending on where you shop
31:24
Yeah.
31:25
to pick it up, there's always going to be once at least once a month. There's going to be a pair out there that as you get deeper into this, there's always going to be a pair out there that excites you. I think the well will never go dry.
31:41
Of course.
31:42
There's so many brands out there and you for me you kind of twist and turn within this. And that you are loyal to one. You shop. For the denomme, because of the brand, as you were sort of alluding to once you know,
32:04
Yeah.
32:05
is it the brand or is it the cut
32:08
Yeah, or
32:08
as
32:08
the product.
32:08
you were saying, the product in itself,
32:10
Yes.
32:11
right? And so yeah, I think there is. There's always going to be something
32:15
Yeah
32:16
out there.
32:16
so.
32:16
You're always going to get excited about a new brand, and especially younger brands are kind of hungry.
32:21
Yes.
32:21
There was going to try to do something different.
32:22
Yes.
32:24
And make really good high quality products.
32:26
So I mean, but it means that at one point you have to commit to a pair or two and just wear them all the time. If you want to get those fades and everything, that's what I'm saying is that basically OK, you can buy a new paradigm every month, but then how are you going to get those fades? 'cause we're buying? And I think we've said this previously, but we're buying a pair for what it will be, not what it is at the time of the purchase. So I mean, what I'm saying is that this year, maybe there's going to be X amount of releases, but if you do want to still work on the jeans you bought, maybe a couple months ago. You have to wear them, it is just you know those fades are not going to come by themselves.
33:14
I think so.
33:17
Another episode for the Future is just the idea of slimmer cuts versus relaxed tapered. I think that things are going to change.
33:25
Yes.
33:25
Your body does change
33:27
Yes.
33:27
and so I think. Yes, you're going to have to fade, and you're going to put you know you'll commit to them.
33:37
But I think fashion changes too. I don't think you know we're not 20 years ago were wearing much baggier Denham,
33:45
Yes.
33:46
then we're wearing now. We made a radical change and I think there's a slow evolution to more relaxed cut. You know. Again, this is purely an uninformed opinion, but I think men's denim wear takes a cue from women's denim wear and you know they were wearing slimmer cuts.
34:07
Yes.
34:08
And then men started to wear
34:09
Exactly.
34:09
an, you know, now they're moving to like what started about four five years ago with like Boyfriend, Jeans and
34:15
Yes,
34:16
such, more
34:16
true.
34:17
roomier cuts. I think is shifting its way too. Over pivoting, I should say to men's fashion.
34:26
Yeah, definitely.
34:27
I that's OK, and that's where again, the well never goes dry. There's always going to be something new and you have to also see what you're comfortable with.
34:37
That takes a bit of time. Also, when you're starting to wear those brands, it takes a bit of time to adapt and see what kind of cut you like. What kind of brands, the fabric, the different weights and everything. So, well,
34:49
I
34:49
that's.
34:49
mean, Japanese denim is interesting in that really what they're doing is looking back. It's as though it's like a Rep reproduction of Levis from
35:01
Yes,
35:01
the
35:01
that's
35:01
early
35:02
what
35:02
20s,
35:02
it is.
35:03
so maybe that in itself will stand the test of time and they will. Their Denham is probably going to be a little bit more classical
35:15
Yes.
35:15
and what they're doing.
35:16
It's
35:16
And so maybe
35:16
a
35:16
it will.
35:17
yeah, definitely. It's the perfection of those classics.
35:22
you want to put a. A period on this little podcast, we got Episode 3.
35:28
Yeah, I think I think. I think we can call it. We can call it the day. Call it a podcast. I don't know how you want to call it, but yeah, we have many more stuff to talk about, but let's keep it for 2021.
35:44
Yeah, maybe I think we're going to. We're not as one dimensional as we may appear we're thinking about. I'm going to have a friend over may talk a little bit about watch
35:55
Yes.
35:55
is we have interests outside. As you heard from Darcy's rant, has very strong opinions on especially the watch industry
36:02
We
36:02
and what's
36:02
will geek
36:03
gone
36:03
on watches
36:03
wrong.
36:03
too, yes.
36:04
Yes, that may
36:06
That,
36:06
be cigars
36:07
music,
36:07
maybe?
36:08
cars, cigars, whatever.
36:09
Yeah, just stuff that we chat about.
36:11
Let's say will always try to keep a section of of a podcast for something else than them.
36:19
Absolutely,
36:20
OK.
36:20
and as always, we're welcome to feedback, questions and comments. You can email us at. Thedenhamheads@gmail.com
